The quota for Peru squid is running low!

The American giant squid is scientifically known as Dosidicus gigas. In Peru, it is commonly called "pota" and is also familiar to the Chinese market as Peruvian squid. Since July, the squid fishing in Peru's exclusive economic zone has maintained a high level, with an average daily unloading volume exceeding 3,000 tons. The rapidly increasing fishing volume has significantly accelerated the consumption rate of quotas, and the Peruvian government ultimately decided to prematurely close the fishing activities of some fleets.

Apart from quota management, the Peruvian fishery is also preparing to deal with the El Niño phenomenon. The Fisheries and Aquaculture Committee of the National Industrial Association of Peru announced that it is completing a fishery emergency plan to mitigate the possible impacts of the ocean and climate change on fishing production.
